As a writer, you’re lucky to have any work at all. As a writer who has contributed to various mStoner projects since 2006, you’re downright blessed.
One of the reasons I love writing about colleges is because I think of myself as a liberal arts success story. Back in college, I had zero career plans, so I simply took the classes that interested me. After four years and a heap of fascinating books/discussions/experiences later, I popped out as a religion major, arguably the least marketable degree this side of ceramics.
But that’s the beauty of a liberal arts education. The name on the degree is only a fraction of the story. What I learned in college is that there is a whole world out there on which to feed my ravenous curiosity. And by sampling courses from every building on campus, I built a foundation of “intellectual experience” that could support any number of weird/rewarding careers.
The best part of my job is interviewing students, faculty and alumni for the short feature stories we include with every site launch. Like my college days, each interview is a chance to engage with something totally new and figure out a way to present each person’s story so that the reader says, “I want to be a part of this, too.”
